CSI Ghaziabad Chapter Student Paper Contest – 2008
will be organized in 2008. The purpose to organize this event is to recognize and motivate the talented students and promote innovation and ingenious research. This will promote innovative application of information technology towards the meaningful value addition & benefiting the society as a whole.

All participations will be given participation certificate The selected papers will be published on CSI Ghaziabad website and the proposed newsletter. The selected papers will be sent into Young IT Professional Award in Northern Region.

· In case of multi-authored papers, division of cash and trophy will be responsibility of the teams. Certificates will be provided to each author.
· The award amount may be revised upwards.

Participation Process
Colleges are invited to participate in this contest. A college level contest will be organized and sponsored by CSI Ghaziabad Chapter. For arranging college level contest, at least 5 papers should have been submitted in the contest. All graduate and post-graduate students from participating college may participate without paying any fee. There is no restriction on the papers being submitted from college. Top two winners from college level contest will be participating at the chapter level contest. The participation fee for colleges is as follows:
For CSI Members Colleges: Rs 1000
For Non-CSI Members Colleges: Rs 2000
The fees should be paid in favor of ‘CSI Ghaziabad Chapter’ by local cheque or DD.
The entries are invited from students of graduate and post-graduate courses. The entries may be submitted by one participant or by team of participants not consisting more than 3 students.

Student from non-participating colleges from may participate directly at chapter level contest. The participation fee at chapter level is as follows:
For CSI Members: Rs 300
For Non-CSI Members: Rs 600

The paper STRICTLY as per format given under heading “Submission Process” should be original, unpublished and NOT already recognized by any other award. The technical paper should CLEARLY reflect specific contribution/achievement with respect to existing application, innovation.

Submission Process
All papers should be written in English and should not exceed more than 10 pages. Papers outside the specified page limit are subject to rejection without review. Paper should be submitted in electronic format. The electronic form can be in PDF or Microsoft Word. Papers should include an abstract of about 100-200 words.
The format of the document will be (single space, double column, 11pt TIMES ROMAN font, TITLE in 14pt BOLD CAPITAL CENTERED, Author affiliation 12pt CENTERED).
Kindly ensure that authors’ names and courses are given only on a separate cover sheet as mentioned in annexure. Paper should be submitted to Coordinator at colleges.
For non-participating colleges, the paper should be submitted in softcopy to spc@csi-ghaziabad.org. 4 copies of hardcopy must be sent along with cover page with stamped by HoD.

Evaluation Process

All papers will be evaluated by panel of judges on following evaluation criteria:
1. Demonstration of expertise and understanding of information technology and its application
2. Explanation of how the paper contributes to a larger body of work in the field
3. Demonstration of innovative approach and critical thinking
4. Quality of writing and presentation of the material

Selected papers from the above evaluation may be called for presentation.

Guidelines

How Do I Write the Paper?

For the purposes of the Student Paper Contest, a paper is a three-part paper that lays out and develops a position in response to the Paper contest. Although researching the topic to find examples that support your points is crucial to writing your Paper, it should be more than a research paper, a narrative description of an event, or a statement of opinion.
Your paper should contain the following:
§ An introduction, which introduces the subject and contains an explanation of your position. The objective is to demonstrate that you understand the paper contest question and have formed a response to it.
§ A body, which develops your argument using research and analysis. The process of analysis may include comparing and contrasting, differentiating among several ideas or events, critiquing a variety of perspectives, interpreting results, or drawing inferences. In this section, you should analyze two case studies. Be sure to identify the sources of your information or ideas.
§ A conclusion, which summarizes the research and analysis presented in the paper and sets forth your conclusions. Drawing on ideas already presented, you should demonstrate that your conclusions support the position you put forward in the opening paragraphs. Your aim is to convince the reader that your position is reasonable and valid.
Your paper should also include notes and a bibliography except when using APA style:
§ Reference notes (footnotes or endnotes) give the sources of your information or ideas. Footnotes are placed at the bottom of the page where the information appears. Alternatively, you may gather all the notes at the end of the text as endnotes.
§ A bibliography is a list of the works that you have referred to in your paper or have consulted in order to write it.
Paper that use variety of sources—academic journals, news magazines, newspapers, books, government documents, publications from research organizations—fare better in the contest.
